Out with the old skin, in with the new !

Media outlets are saturated with promotions and pitches for the latest ingredients, applications and technologies.  While all those are important for professional and home-care regimens, there is a key element missing in the current messages. What does your skin need to achieve optimal skin heath and why?

Your skin is the largest organ in your body and you only get one chance to take care of it in the best possible way. Keeping your daily routine with products that cleanse, hydrate, strengthen, correct and protect will give you the healthiest skin imaginable.

Which one is more appealing?  A dry, shriveled raisin or a plump, juicy grape?  Beautiful skin starts with hydration. Proper hydration assists with PH balance and reduces the indication of premature aging. I recommend Dermaquest B5 Serum, this top selling serum gushes with a superior dermal hydrator, Sodium Hyaluronate and signature ingredients. Drink it in 2x a day and your skin will show you gratitude.

As we age, our cellular renewal rate slows down and replenishment of elastin and collagen reduces. This statement is hurtful for many men and women. The dreaded fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. Now a revolutionary plant stem cell has a unique advantage: the ability to not only protect and repair but to actually replace these lost or damaged cells with healthy, differentiated new cells. Reducing the evil fine lines and diminishing the wretched wrinkles.

Launching this month in my studio is the Dermaquest Skin Therapy’s Steam Cell 3D collection. This is a complete regiment of multi-dimensional products that address the 3 signs of aging: skin tone, fine lines, and protection from environmental damage. This is a one of a kind anti-aging regiment using the latest in technology and containing unparalleled, marine plant stem cells, such as Sea Fennel and Sea Holly, along with organic flowers, Lilac, Gardenia, and Edelweiss. Additionally, it is loaded with powerful Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid and Red Algae. This new collection includes a new cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, eye cream, and lip enhancer. It’s time to say, “out with the old, in with the new skin.”

What makes a complete skin care regiment?

What makes a complete skin care regiment? Do I really need to apply more than one product on my face? I have been asked this question over and over by my clients and friends throughout my career. The answer has always been, “YES !”  Why apply multiple products?  Is each product so different and do they really do something more to my skin? The answer is, “Yes, they do!”  Let me explain why I recommend layering your products and how your skin will benefit from it.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Beta Hydroxy Acid products have been around for many years and continue their strong strides in being a very effective performance to treat a wide array of concerns. These acids promote an increased cell turnover to reveal luminous new skin cells at the surface and promote product penetration. While providing a quicker cell turnover rate, AHA’s/BHA’s impart multi-functional qualities to improve skin texture, decreases pore size, reduce congestion, moisturize, and promote collagen. Everyone can benefit by using them!

Vitamin C is one of the most essential nutrients for the body and is a key component to maintaining healthy, glowing skin. Vitamin C is an active ingredient that brightens and tightens the skin. It is an antioxidant that slows the rate of free-radical damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. New research shows that it can reverse DNA damage as well.

Peptide products are one of my favorites. Peptides are made up of essential amino acids.  These active ingredients are small, yet powerful in drastically changing the skin! When we age, collagen is destroyed but not replaced. As a result, young and smooth skin becomes thin and wrinkled over time. When collagen breaks down, it forms specific peptides. These peptides act as a signal to tell your skin it was damaged and needs to make new collagen. Applying peptides directly to the skin is a way to trick your skin  into thinking it has lost collagen and needs to make more.  I make sure to use my peptide product twice a day to trick my skin!

Hyaluronic Acid/ B5 Serum is an essential hydrator for everyone’s skin! Each molecule of hyaluronic acid can hold 1,000 times its molecular weight in moisture. It is known for its hydrating properties along with its natural delivery into the skin. Feeling a little dry this summer? Apply B5 Serum twice a day.

Last but not least, don’t leave the house without your Zinc SPF 30.  Zinc is a mineral utilized for superior UV ray protection and prolonged, broad spectrum coverage. Minerals are safe, effective, reduce inflammation and are designed to be used on all skin types, especially sensitive and acne-prone skin. In my opinion zinc is the only SPF anyone should use.

By describing the functions and benefits of each of these products, I hope you understand now why it is important to layer your skin care. If you would like to know what best skin care regiment is best for you, feel free to make an appointment today for a complimentary skin analysis.

Roll into the new year

Happy New Year, everyone. Now that the holidays are over, the family has gone home and the kids back in school, it is time to finally think of yourself. This may mean getting back into shape, shedding those few extra holiday pounds or picking up a new skin care routine to rejuvenate your skin after long hours of parting. Whichever the reason, this is the perfect time to start something new and exciting.

I want to share with you my new skin care routine for 2013. Roll into the New Year with the Dermaquest Micro Roller.

The Micro Roller is an advanced cosmetic handheld device, designed to increase product penetration by 85%. It’s a groundbreaking new tool for your face, a revolutionary device with the ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production for treating fine lines and wrinkles without having any down time and no surgery is needed! Roll and reset your cells’ aging clock.

It can be a home care regiment, used 2 to 3 time per week, for as little as one minute before putting on any creams or serums you are currently using.  This will push the ingredients deeper into the skin. It can also be performed by an esthetician who has a stronger version of Micro Roller with various protocols to benefit overall skin texture and tone.  It is highly effective for environmentally damaged skin, age management, acne scars, stretch marks and cellulite.Micro Roller therapy is an effective and easy treatment method that is suitable for men and women, all ethnicities and can be used anywhere on the body.

Go bold and feel beautiful!

From smoky eyes to bold colors, anything goes on this special night.

New Year's Eve Style

New Year’s Eve is your chance to explore fun and exciting makeup styles.  New Year’s Eve is the night to go big and feel glamorous!

Prep Your Face Right

No matter what style you decide on, there are some simple rules to keep in mind.  New Year’s Eve is the longest night of the year and even the best makeup will need a refresher at some point during the evening. Carry a compact touch-up kit that will easily fit into your purse and, of course, the lip color you have chosen.

There are also products that will help your look stay fresh all night long and remain sexy, like the Makeup Designory Face Primer. Before you apply makeup, it is essential to exfoliate your skin. Using a light pumpkin enzyme, like Dermaquest Mini Pumpkin Peel, is a good way to prepare your skin and have it glow all night. Then, it is crucial to moisturize your skin! Applying makeup on dry skin will appear less vibrant. Remember ladies, you want to look great even after the clock strikes twelve!

Smokey Eyes are the Look of 2013

One of the most popular styles for New Year’s Eve is the Smokey Eye look. It’s sultry and sexy. Be prepared to spend 10-20 minutes creating this look.  Start with a charcoal eye shadow at the base of your lash and apply all the way to the fold with a small makeup brush. Next, apply a black eye shadow on top of the charcoal with the same brush, and then sweep a deep berry color in the crease with a blending brush. Sweep your brush back and forth to blend. Apply a color close to your skin tone under the brow bone to highlight it. Use a black eye liner and multiple coats of your favorite black mascara. To top off this style, use the charcoal eye shadow under the eye at the base of the lashes. This will give you a more dramatic look. Go bold and put a few individual lashes on the outside of the eye. You can get lashes at any of our local drug stores. Natural lips would look stunning with this look. Nude lipstick or gloss is beautiful, but what could be hotter than splashing sexy red lips?  It’s the NEW YEAR!

The Natural and Glamorous Look

If your desire is to look natural and glamorous, then I highly recommend the Leading Lady Kitfrom Makeup Designory. Start by placing the Honeysuckle Eye Shadow under the brow bone with a small brush.  Next, apply Apricot Eye Shadow at the base of the lashes all the way to the fold.  Apply Taupe Color in the crease, sweeping back a forth with a blending brush. Repeat the Taupe Color under the eye, at the base of the lash to give it a natural but defined look. UseEspresso Eye Shadow with a damp, thin brush and sweep it over your lashes to create a natural, sophisticated eyeliner. Dip your angle brush in the Espresso Color and fill in your brows to give dimension to your face. Curl your lashes and use multiple coats of lengthening black mascara. To top off this natural and glamorous look, I dare you to use that one red lipstick that you have put off wearing all year for work or running around town playing taxi for the kids.  No matter what style you decide on, both of these looks are stunning. Take time for yourself and practice, you deserve it.  Happy New Year to the new and glamorous YOU!

Holidays are just around the corner. It’s the season when you will be spending more time with your family, going out of town to visit some relatives or on a shopping spree for gifts.

With these grand reunions and events, it is important to keep yourself looking blooming and beautiful. However, most of us make a wrong move on the appropriate make-up and hair style to fit in the holiday season.  For instance, you have to remember that this is going to be a family reunion and you are going to present yourself to your family and friends who, more often than not, you rarely see during the year. It is always best to impress them with and easy and quick remedies that would not outdo your natural beauty.

There are so many ways you can show your simple and natural beauty during the holidays. You can go with a simple bejeweled bun. A sleek bun will help your face be seen more. That clean hairstyle will make your eyes pop. If this would be the hairstyle for you, you can have the option to go out with that black mascara and charcoal eyeliner. You can also choose darker eye shadows.Your eyes are the showcases for this selection.

If you do not want this sleek uptight show, then you can go and have those simple short curls with pale lips. This look somehow shows a laidback but cool type of style. With just the semi-waves flowing, you can have everyone’s attention to your outfit. Having the waves just under the cheek, you cheekbones can be boldly seen and this will be the focus of your style.

If you have a long hair, you can also choose to curl it up and be bold with those full red lips. This classic combo will make you look hot until the end of the day. The easy-to-manage curls are outstanding if you are going with fun activities during the holidays. The glossy red lips will also be your highlight. Just remember that you should only choose one highlight for your face. If it is your lips, do not overpower your make up with darker eye shadows or too much pinkish cheeks.

Go retro with that faux bob and lavish eye. Though these hairstyles are mostly attributed to costume-y outfits, you can go elegant with this style as well. You can do this easy trick by blowing your hair and using a curling iron to roll the back section of your bob. You can mix in your lavish eye placement by having bold eye liners to shape your eyes.

Whatever style you want to go with this holiday season, remember to have fun and share the cheers!
